I just think calling it ‘Satin Taupe’ is a bit misleading.

Of course, MAC is cheaper and better quality, so stick to ‘Satin Taupe’ rather than ‘Roach’.Ī great color, no doubt. A best-seller in fact! You can mix and match this color with nearly any of MAC’s browns and golds and get a winning combination. You’ll find that Urban Decay has an EXACTLY similar shade called ‘Roach’ in their classic Eyeshadows.

This color almost reminds me of ‘Saddle’, which was a peachy/red brown. MAC Pro Refill Eyeshadow Pans cost £10, the Pro Palette costs £10 and the 15x Eyeshadow Insert is £2.50. I’ve been pairing it with my MAC ‘Woodwinked’ Eyeshadow and the pair work well, though I think now that ‘Woodwinked’ would go best with a less red-tinted brown. Not your average taupe color, but still very pretty. This color really has a red-brown tinge to it. The swatch on is just a hint too dark, but it’s almost right. It took me a while to figure out a dupe that compared well to Busted, but Mystery fits the bill. Its counterpart in MAC Mystery is next to near hard to discern in the swatches below. Busted appears purple in the palette but is really a dark brown shade with purple tones. Swatches from left to right: Grand Entrance, Crystal Avalanche, Nylon, Ricepaper, Retrospeck, Brule, Malt, Era, Patina, Soba, Cork, Espresso, Club, Corduroy, Handwritten, Sorcery, Brun, Electra, Satin Taupe, Tempting, Woodwinked, Bronze, Black Tied, Carbon and Typographic.

This color is descriped as ‘taupe with silver shimmer’, but I think that’s rather vague because taupe has a range of colors. (L to R) MAC Satin Taupe + All That Glitters, UD YDK UD Busted MAC Mystery.

I grabbed A Natural Flirt and Silver Dawn. Now they are permanent, and I picked up a few to try. I’ve seen them come out in limited collections, go away and come back again. I had tried the bronzer and one eyeshadow, Silver Sun. This is a frost-finish, which in my opinion looks/applies better than the veluxe-pearl finishes while both have that shimmery and light-reflective look to them. The first MAC Extra Dimension products I tried were in last summer’s limited collection. I was really trying to make a sultry brown eyeshadow combination, and I ended up getting ‘Satin Taupe’ in my mini eyeshadow haul from MAC.
